Do you
believe that God transforms people's souls in order for them to make new
and wiser choices? Do you think there's a need to ask God to make those
soul-transformations in your life?
I suggest that we all learn more on how to pray for our souls and
the souls of others from the manner the Holy Bible prays for souls. If
we do, we will begin to say good prayers, and in the process we could
learn more about how God acts.
Below is how I pray for my own soul. You could use these prayers
over and over again while praying for yourself or for your family,
colleagues, and neighbors.
1. My soul needs an inclination to
God and His Word. Without this, nothing can possibly happen in your life
that will have value. We must ensure to know God better, understand His
Word, and draw closer to Him everyday. Remember the Bible says in Psalm
119:36 that we should incline our hearts to God's testimonies and not
to gain.
2. We need to open our hearts that we may get the deepest meaning of
God's Word and not just lean on our own understanding. Only God can
increase our understanding. In Psalm 119:18, we were made to understand
that when we pray, we should open our eyes that we may behold wonderful
things from God's law.
3. We need our hearts to be enlightened, and only God can do that
for us. The Bible makes us understand that we should pray that the eyes
of our hearts may be enlightened (Ephesians 1:18).
4. We could
long for our hearts to be united with God. God can bring our hearts
wholeness and unity with Him. The Bible makes us aware that when we
pray, we could ask God to reunite our heart to fear His name as we walk
in His truth.
5. We need to pray that our hearts find satisfaction with God and
not with this world. Only God can bring satisfaction to our hearts. The
Bible makes us understand that when we pray, we should ask God to
satisfy us in the morning with His lovingkindness that we may sing for
joy and be glad all our days (Psalm 90:14).
5. What I really want from all this engagement with the Word of God
and the work of his Spirit in answer to my prayers is that my heart will
be satisfied with God and not with the world. Where does that
satisfaction come from? It comes from God. So Psalm 90:14 teaches us to
pray, "O satisfy us in the morning with Your lovingkindness, that we may
sing for joy and be glad all our days."
Only God gives these things to the soul. When Jesus died for us, He
removed the wrath of God upon us that God may freely give us everything
(Romans 8:32).
